Twenty-four hours after learning that he had been barred from contesting Umno's No. 2 post, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam continued to put up a brave front and with his trademark smile.Making his way to the small hall at his home in Seri Bendahara to meet the press, the ever smiling Ali was greeted by his supporters from all state Barisan Nasional component parties as well as members of the public.
At 8.20am, Ali, surrounded by his supporters, officially said he accepted the decision by the Umno disciplinary board with an open heart and that he would be making an appeal to overturn the decision."I met them (the board) a few days ago and pleaded my innocence but the decision was against me and I would have to adhere to the decision. "I would submit the appeal letter today (yesterday) to Umno president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his deputy, Datuk Seri Najib Razak," he said to loud cheer from his supporters.
Seated with his wife, Datin Seri Asmah Abdul Rahman, Ali said he would carry out his party and government duties as normal."I am still the chief minister," he said. Ali told the crowd of 50 supporters and state leaders that he would not leave the party over this issue. "I am willing to sacrifice my body and soul for Umno... I will continue to work for the party as I am a party man and will always be loyal to Umno."I ask all my supporters to remain calm and accept the decision by the Umno disciplinary board as the party should be their priority and not an individual."He urged his supporters to help ensure a smooth transition of power to Najib.
Asked if there was a conspiracy to prevent him from contesting, Ali shrugged it off with his trademark smile."The board acted within the powers given to it and its members," he said.

Politik wang dah sebati dgn UMNO. Daripada pemilihan peringkat bahagian ke pemilihan peringkat tertinggi. Saya sebagai anak jati melaka meluat dgn politik wang ni. Kalau dah banyak sangat duit tu ape salah sedekah pada anak yatim atau yg memerlukan.
