Ali Rustam: BN men have good chance of winning

KUANTAN: Barisan Nasional candidates have a better chance to wrest the Bukit Gantang parliamentary and Bukit Selambau state seats as they are accepted by all quarters, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.

He said both Ismail Safian and Datuk S. Ganesan had strong support from the coalition members and voters in these constituencies."We used to field candidates who were favoured by the party, but the locals did not support them," he said after a special session to introduce Umno supreme council candidates to Pahang delegates here on Saturday.Ali said BN had learnt its lesson and would only choose candidates accepted by locals. At the same time, he said the BN government would not implement development projects, known as the "instant noodles" approach, during the campaigning period.

Earlier, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob advised delegates to put the party above their personal interests."It's a huge responsibility as we have to choose leaders who can help incoming party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak strengthen the party and develop the country."Almost all the 66 candidates in the party polls attended the function, including those contesting the deputy president's post namely Ali, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib.

Only time could tell.
